Pick the drill that matches what slows you down. Paragraphs give you full sentences with capitals and commas: 60 passages of 30 to 241 words, 14 of them easy and 46 from Thoreau, Emerson and Muir. Home row keeps your fingers on A S D F and J K L ;, with 16 drill lines and 110 real words. The left-hand and right-hand drills use only words typed by one hand on a QWERTY keyboard: 140 for the left hand's 15 letters and 132 for the right hand's 11. For a typing warm up, two exercises are enough: a minute or two of home row drill lines with no timer, then one short paragraph. When a drill starts to feel easy, measure the difference on the typing speed test.
