The text a dispatcher, a records clerk or a legal secretary types all day is not ordinary sentences. A dispatcher types addresses, plate numbers and call notes.

More about these tools

A medical typist meets long drug and anatomy terms. A legal typist meets citations and set phrases, and a data entry clerk lives on the number pad. Each practice test here is built from the kind of text that job uses, written for this site, and scored in words per minute (correct characters divided by five, per minute) with accuracy, or in keystrokes per hour for number work. These are unofficial practice tests, and none gives a certificate. We quote a pass mark only where we could read the employer's own document: the US federal clerical standard, on the alphanumeric, legal, pre-employment, secretary and data entry pages. For any other job, ask the recruiter for the speed and accuracy they need.
