How it works
An allegro moderato metronome has little room to move: Wikipedia's list of common tempo markings gives the marking 116 to 120 beats a minute and reads it as close to allegro, but not quite.

Questions and answers
How fast is allegro moderato?
About 116 to 120 beats a minute in Wikipedia's list of common tempo markings: just short of Allegro, which begins at 120 there. Take it as a place to start: the list calls its figures very rough, meant for 4/4, and different between composers.
Is allegro moderato faster than moderato?
Only at the bottom. The list opens Moderato at 108, Allegretto at 112 and Allegro moderato at 116, then closes all three at 120. Anything this page's range holds is therefore a moderato and an allegretto tempo as well.
What does allegro moderato mean?
Allegro, held back a little. Alone, the list gives moderato as at a moderate speed; joined to allegro it reads the pair as near allegro without reaching it. Andante moderato is built the same way: between andante and moderato, at 80 to 108.
Which wind-up metronome setting is allegro moderato?
One of two. In the most common scale that Wikipedia's Metronome article lists, 116 and 120 are next-door notches, four apart, with nothing between them. The 117 this page opens on, like 118 and 119, exists only where a tempo can be typed.
Why can't I hear the metronome?
If the phone is silent, its ring switch is the likeliest cause, then a volume at zero, then Bluetooth headphones that hold the sound. The pad counts regardless: its two dots alternate at the tempo shown.
