Baritone Ukulele Tuning: 146.83 Hz sawtooth tone
Start with your device volume low.
Sawtooth wave · both channels
146.83Hz
Period 6.81 ms
Wavelength 2.34 m (7.66 ft)
The note D3
Ready. It starts quiet and fades in over half a second.
A steady tone can harm ears and speakers before it sounds loud. Hear nothing? Do not turn it up to find the tone: small speakers cannot play very low tones, and many adults cannot hear very high ones.
Percent of this tool's loudest. Your device volume does the rest.
4th string D3, the low D146.83 Hz, the lowest note of the instrument. A standard ukulele has a high 4th string; the baritone's runs low. Held at fret 5 it sounds the 3rd string's G.
3rd string G3, a fourth over the D196 Hz. A standard ukulele's 3rd string is C4, 261.63 Hz, five semitones higher. Held at fret 4 it sounds the 2nd string's B.
2nd string B3, a third over the G246.94 Hz, four semitones over the G: the one short step of the tuning. Held at fret 5 it sounds the 1st string's E.
1st string E4, the high E329.63 Hz, the E above middle C and the pitch of a guitar's 1st string. A standard ukulele's 1st string is the 440 Hz A, five semitones higher.
How it works
Standard baritone ukulele tuning is D G B E, low to high (DGBE): the notes D3, G3, B3 and E4. The fourth string is the lowest and the first is the highest.

How to tune a baritone ukulele
1. Press Play: the fourth string's D sounds. Tune your D string until the two match.
2. Press the G, B and E rows in turn and tune each string to its tone.
3. Strum the four strings open. D, G, B and E together are a G sixth chord, which is why the tuning is also called G6.
Shapes from a standard ukulele still work and sound a fourth lower: the C shape gives G.
The low D comes through a phone speaker because each tone is a sawtooth wave, heard by its overtones.
Questions and answers
How do you tune a baritone ukulele without a tuner?
Take the low D from this page, then use frets: the D string at fret 5 sounds G, the G string at fret 4 sounds B, the B string at fret 5 sounds E. Match each open string to the fretted one before it.
Is a baritone ukulele tuned like a guitar?
Like its four highest strings: D3, G3, B3 and E4 are the very same pitches. A chord shape played on those four guitar strings gives the same chord on a baritone ukulele.
Is baritone uke tuning different from a standard ukulele?
Yes. A standard ukulele is G C E A with a high fourth string, G4. The baritone sits a fourth lower on its top three strings, and its fourth string is low, D3, rather than high.
