200 BPM Metronome

200 beats a minute in bars of four, beat one higher: tap the pad.

Beat length at 200 BPM

How it works

A 200 BPM metronome clicks on a border. In Wikipedia's list of tempo markings Presto, very fast, ends at 200 and Prestissimo, extremely fast, begins. The list gives every figure as a rough guide that shifts from composer to composer.

Questions and answers

What dance is 200 beats per minute?

Quickstep, at its slowest in competition. World DanceSport Federation Rule E.3.2 (2026) sets it at 50 to 52 bars a minute, and Wikipedia's Quickstep article gives the music as 4/4. Fifty bars of four beats come to 200: our sum, as the rule counts bars.

Do wind-up metronomes go up to 200?

Most do. The usual wind-up range is 40 to 208, by Wikipedia's Metronome article, and the commonest scale it lists climbs in eights near the top: 184, 192, 200, 208. That makes 200 the last notch but one.

How do I work up to 200 BPM?

Start lower. Wikipedia's Metronome article describes one way: raise the setting a little at a time until the target tempo is reached, which also exposes the bars where the playing drags. So type a number you can play cleanly, then climb back to 200.

Is 200 BPM twice 100 BPM?

Yes: two clicks here for every click at 100. Count this pad as eighth notes and the beat is 100, with the higher click on every second beat. As sixteenth notes the beat is 50, and the higher click marks each one. Our own sums.

Why can't I hear the metronome?

A phone on silent is the usual cause: try the ring switch, then the volume, then Bluetooth, which may have sent the click to headphones. At 200 the four dots still run through the bar without it, the larger first dot on beat one.
