Questions and answers

How fast are sixteenth notes at 176 BPM?

Four to a click: 704 a minute, by our sum. That is the right hand of Chopin's etude, whose arpeggios Wikipedia's article calls uninterrupted; the Mutopia Project's edition, set from the Peters score, prints them as sixteenth notes under Allegro, quarter note = 176.

Is 176 BPM a jive tempo?

The fast end in competition. Rule E.3.2 of the World DanceSport Federation's 2026 rules sets the Jive at 42 to 44 bars a minute without naming the bar; Wikipedia's Ballroom dance article gives jive 4/4 time. Forty-four bars of four are 176, by our sum.

Does vivace end at 176 BPM?

It does in Wikipedia's list of tempo markings: Vivace is 156 to 176, and the narrow Vivacissimo and Allegrissimo, 172 to 176, stop with it. Presto, very fast, began at 168 and carries on to 200. The list warns that composers and works differ widely.

Is 176 a setting on a pendulum metronome?

Yes, on the usual one. Wikipedia's Metronome article lists the commonest arrangement stepping by eight at its fast end, so 176 has a notch, with 168 beneath it and 184 beyond. Only four notches are faster: 184, 192, 200 and 208.

Why can't I hear the metronome?

Silence here usually points to the phone: a ring switch on silent, the volume at zero, or a Bluetooth speaker taking the click. Two dots still flick back and forth on the pad, so the beat can be read by eye.
