Questions and answers
What tempo marking is 100 BPM: andante or allegro?
Andante, in Wikipedia's list of tempo markings: 56 to 108, with Andantino and Andante moderato at 80 to 108. Moderato begins at 108 and Allegro at 120. The list calls its figures very rough approximations that vary by composer and work.
Which dance is 100 beats per minute?
Samba, at its slowest. The World DanceSport Federation's competition rules set samba at 50 to 52 bars a minute, and Wikipedia's article on ballroom samba gives its bar as 2/4. Two beats times 50 bars is 100: our sum, not the rule's.
Is 100 one of the standard metronome numbers?
Yes. Wikipedia's Metronome article lists the most common arrangement of a wind-up metronome's scale, and from 72 to 120 it climbs in fours: 96, 100, 104.
Is this 100 BPM metronome in 4/4?
Yes: four beats to the bar, the first click higher and its dot larger. A samba bar holds two beats, so one bar on this pad spans two bars of samba.
Why can't I hear the metronome?
Three things to check on a phone: the ring switch, the volume, and Bluetooth headphones that may have taken the sound. With no sound at all the four dots still take the beat in turn, so the tempo can be followed by eye.
