Opens at 110 in four with beat one marked: tap the pad and it clicks.

Beat length at 110 BPM

How it works

A 110 BPM metronome ticks at a marching pace: Canada's drill manual lets Scottish and Highland regiments take quick time at 110 paces a minute on their own parades. The click comes in bars of four, beat one marked.

Questions and answers

What tempo marking is 110 BPM?

Moderato, which Wikipedia's list of basic tempo markings gives as 108 to 120. No other marking in that list reaches 110: Andante stops at 108 and Allegretto starts at 112. The list warns that every figure is approximate.

Is 110 BPM a marching tempo?

For some regiments. The Canadian Armed Forces Manual of Drill and Ceremonial (chapter 3) sets quick time at 120 paces a minute and lets a parade commander order a traditional quick march instead: 116 for foot guards, 110 for Scottish and Highland regiments.

Can a mechanical metronome be set to 110?

Not on the usual scale. Wikipedia's Metronome article lists the most common arrangement, which has notches at 108 and 112 and nothing between them. Scales differ, and this page opens on 110 itself.

Why can't I hear the metronome?

Three things silence a phone: the ring switch on its side, a volume set to nothing, and Bluetooth headphones that have taken the sound. Until it is found, the dots on the pad show every beat without it.
