Questions and answers
Is 120 BPM allegro or moderato?
It is the border. Wikipedia's list of tempo markings ends Moderato (108 to 120), Allegretto (112 to 120) and Allegro moderato (116 to 120) here and starts Allegro (120 to 156). By the list's own account its figures are very rough approximations for 4/4.
Is 120 BPM a march tempo?
Yes, by two Wikipedia articles. Tempo gives tempo di marcia, the speed of a march, as about 120 quarter notes a minute. Military step gives quick time in the United States as 120 paces a minute: one pace to a click.
Which ballroom dances are 120 beats a minute?
Two meet at 30 bars a minute in the World DanceSport Federation's rules: slow foxtrot's range ends there (28 to 30) and cha-cha-cha's begins (30 to 32). Wikipedia gives both a 4/4 bar, and four times 30 is 120: our sum.
Where is 120 on a metronome's scale of numbers?
On the most common wind-up scale, as Wikipedia's Metronome article lists it, 120 is the last step of the fours, after 116. Above it the scale climbs in sixes, so the next mark is 126.
Why can't I hear the metronome?
Check a phone's ring switch, then the volume, then whether Bluetooth headphones or a speaker have taken the sound. Silent or not, the four dots light in turn and keep the time.
