How it works
A 124 BPM metronome clicks where two competition dances meet: the fastest paso doble and the slowest tango the World DanceSport Federation's rules allow. The rules count bars a minute, so 124 for either dance is our own sum.

Start
Tap the pad, or press Space. Nothing picks out a first beat at 124, so the click suits a bar of two as readily as a bar of four. It runs until the pad is tapped again.
Change the tempo
Tap the number under the pad and type a tempo, or use minus and plus. To hear 124 with beat one marked in a bar of three, open the 3/4 metronome and type 124 there.
Questions and answers
Is 124 BPM a paso doble tempo?
The quickest in competition. A bar of paso doble has two beats (Wikipedia's Ballroom dance article lists it in 2/4), and Rule E.3.2 of the World DanceSport Federation's 2026 rules allows 60 to 62 bars a minute. Sixty-two twos are 124; sixty are 120.
How many bars a minute is a tango at 124 BPM?
Thirty-one, the slow limit. The World DanceSport Federation's rules give the Tango 31 to 33 bars a minute, and Wikipedia's Ballroom dance article puts tango in 4/4. Thirty-one bars of four are 124 beats per minute; the quick limit, 33 bars, is 132.
Where does allegro vivace start on a metronome?
At 124, in Wikipedia's list of tempo markings. Allegro opens at 120; four beats later Molto allegro or Allegro vivace joins it, glossed as livelier and at least a little faster, and both close at 156. The list calls every figure a very rough approximation.
What comes between 120 and 126 on a metronome?
No notch, on the scale Wikipedia's Metronome article gives as the most common for a wind-up model. It counts in fours up to 120, then in sixes to 144, so its marks go straight from 120 to 126. Scales differ; this pad starts on 124.
Why can't I hear the metronome?
Three things mute it on a phone: a ring switch set to silent, the volume at zero, or Bluetooth earphones holding the sound. The beat can be watched as well, because the pad's two dots trade places on each click.
