Count to a distance

Open More options and pick a preset, or press its name in the list under the tool. The line under the button says how many are left, and one beep sounds on the last.

Pool lengths and track laps

A pool preset counts lengths: 400 m, 800 m and 1,500 m in a 25 m pool are 16, 32 and 60. On a 400 m track, 1,600 m is 4 laps, 3,200 m is 8 and 10,000 m is 25.

Several lanes at once

Six lanes, a key each gives each lane its own counter on keys 1 to 6. Four walkers or runners with a total adds up the laps of a group.

Questions and answers

How many laps is 1,500 m in a 25 m pool?

60 lengths, because 1,500 ÷ 25 = 60. In a 50 m pool the same swim is 30 lengths. Each pool preset on this page counts one length of the pool with each tap.

Is a lap one length of the pool or two?

Usage differs. In swimming a lap most often means one length of the pool and, less commonly, one length and back. The pool presets count single lengths, and Lengths into laps, two lengths a lap keeps both numbers.

How many laps of a track is a mile?

Just over 4. A mile is 1,609.344 m and lane 1 of a competition track is 400 m, so a mile is 4.02 laps. Four laps are 1,600 m, which is 9.344 m short of a mile.

Can it count laps by itself while I swim or run?

No. The count goes up only when the button is tapped or Space is pressed; the page reads no motion and no location. A walker can tap a phone each lap, and for a swimmer someone on the pool deck taps.

All 12 lap presets

Pool distances 6

  • 400 m in a 25 m pool: 16 lengths One tap for each length swum. 400 ÷ 25 = 16, so the counter beeps once on length 16. The line under the button says how many are left.
  • 800 m in a 25 m pool: 32 lengths 800 ÷ 25 = 32 lengths, with one beep on the last. Swum as there-and-back pairs, that is 16 trips up the pool and back.
  • 1,500 m in a 25 m pool: 60 lengths The longest pool preset in meters: 1,500 ÷ 25 = 60. Each tap is one length, and at 60 the counter beeps and carries on counting, so an extra length still shows.
  • 1,500 m in a 50 m pool: 30 lengths The same distance in a long pool takes half the taps: 1,500 ÷ 50 = 30 lengths, with the beep on length 30.
  • 1,650 yards in a 25-yard pool: 66 lengths For a pool measured in yards: 1,650 ÷ 25 = 66. A shorter swim needs a smaller number in Target, and 500 yards comes to 20.
  • Lengths into laps, two lengths a lap For swimmers who call there and back one lap. Tap Length, or press Space, once for each length; on every second one Length reads 0 again and Lap gains 1. The number of lengths in a lap is a field under More options.

Track, 400 m a lap 3

  • 1,600 m on a 400 m track: 4 laps Four times around lane 1: 1,600 ÷ 400 = 4. One tap as the runner crosses the line, and the beep comes on lap 4.
  • 3,200 m on a 400 m track: 8 laps 3,200 ÷ 400 = 8 laps of lane 1. The line under the button says how many laps are left, and the beep comes on the eighth.
  • 10,000 m on a 400 m track: 25 laps The longest track preset: 10,000 ÷ 400 = 25 laps. Distances that do not come to a whole number of laps, such as 5,000 m at 12.5 laps, are left off this list.

No set distance 3

  • Four walkers or runners with a total For a charity walk or run. Type four names in the field above the counters, then press 1 to 4 as each person passes. The total is the laps of the whole group, and Copy results copies the table for a spreadsheet.
  • Laps, no target The counter this page opens on: one big button, and each tap is one more lap. To count toward a distance of your own, type a number in Target under More options and tick Beep at the target.
  • Six lanes, a key each Six counters on keys 1 to 6. Press a lane's key, or tap its card, each time the swimmer or runner in that lane finishes a lap. Every lane keeps its own count and its own −1, and there is no total.

How this list was compiled: Presets and notes were designed and written for this page in October 2026. Every number of lengths or laps is the distance divided by the length of the pool or the track, calculated on 2 October 2026; only distances that divide evenly are listed.
