How it works
A 78 BPM metronome clicks two beats below a border. Wikipedia's list of tempo markings ends Adagietto and Marcia moderato at 80 and starts Andantino and Andante moderato there, while Andante (56 to 108) runs straight through.

Start
Tap the pad, or press Space. The click at 78 is level: no beat is raised and two equal dots take turns. Tap the pad again to stop.
Change the tempo
Tap the number under the pad to type a tempo, or step with minus and plus. 78 is the halfway point between 76 and 80, neighbouring notches of the most common wind-up scale in Wikipedia's Metronome article. Type 156 for double time, where Wikipedia's list of tempo markings starts Vivace.
Questions and answers
Is 78 BPM andante or andantino?
Andante in Wikipedia's list of tempo markings and on a 20th-century German dial pictured in German Wikipedia's Tempo article (76 to 108). That article's present-day Japanese dial stops Andante at 76 and prints Andantino over 76 to 84. Each source calls its own figures rough.
Is eighth note = 78 a slow 6/8?
Very slow: three eighth notes fill one beat of 6/8, so that is dotted quarter = 26, by our sum. If your 78 counts the dotted quarter, open the 6/8 metronome and type 78 for 234 eighth notes a minute. No bar is marked here.
Is there a low-pitched metronome at 78 BPM?
On the metronome sounds page: choose Low tick from its Sound list and type 78 under the pad. The click here is one fixed high note.
How many clicks does 78 BPM make in ten seconds?
Thirteen exactly, by our sum, which is 1.3 a second. Shorter note values, in milliseconds: the sixteenth 192.3, the triplet eighth 256.4, the eighth note 384.6, the dotted eighth 576.9.
Why can't I hear the metronome?
Look first at the phone: a ring switch on silent, a volume at zero or a Bluetooth headset holding the sound can each hide the click. The beat is still there to watch, as two dots that take turns on the pad.
