How it works
This keyboard tester is an online keyboard test: each key lights on the board when the browser receives it, and one it never hears stays dark. The readout names the last key by position and by what your layout types.

How to test keyboard keys
1. Press Start the test. 2. Work across the board row by row, then the number pad. 3. The run ends when every key has lit, or when you press Esc twice. On a UK or European board, pick ISO (UK and Europe) first: it has one more key beside the left Shift.
When a key stays dark
Press it firmly a few times. If it still stays dark, see A key that never lights in the list below the tool. Print Screen, the logo keys, F11 and Menu can stay dark because the computer keeps them for itself.
- Test the keys you use least: the right-hand modifiers, the number pad and the keys beside Enter.
Questions and answers
How do I test if my keyboard keys are working?
Press each key once. A key that lights reached the browser. A key still dark at the end stays in the Never pressed list.
Does the key tester work with a laptop or a mechanical keyboard?
Yes. It reads any keyboard the browser hears: a laptop's own keys, a mechanical keyboard, a wireless one. On a board with no number pad, press My keyboard has no number pad under the board and the count leaves those keys out.
Why does the keyboard checker show the wrong letter?
The board lights keys by position, and the readout shows what your layout types there. If the right key lights, the keyboard is fine: change the keyboard layout in your computer's settings.
Why is there no Fn key on the keyboard test?
Browsers get no event for Fn, so no page can light it. Hold Fn and press a key it changes: if the readout names something different, Fn is working.
Can an online keyboard tester find a key that types twice?
Not this one: a key lights once and stays lit. The keyboard double click test logs every repeat from a single press, with the gap in ms.
