56 BPM Metronome

A slow, even click, a little over a second apart: tap the pad.

Beat length at 56 BPM

How it works

A 56 BPM metronome clicks at the bottom of Andante. Wikipedia's list of tempo markings runs Andante, at a walking pace and moderately slow, from 56 to 108, and warns that its figures are very rough.

Start

Tap the pad, or press Space. The clicks at 56 all sound alike, with no first beat picked out. The next tap stops them.

Change the tempo

Tap the number under the pad to type a tempo, or press minus and plus. Two presses either way land on 54 or 58, the neighbouring notches of the usual wind-up scale.

Questions and answers

Is 56 BPM largo, adagio or andante?

All three, and three more. In Wikipedia's list of tempo markings Largo (40 to 66), Larghetto and Adagio (44 to 66), Lento (40 to 60), Adagietto (46 to 80) and Andante (56 to 108) each take in a tempo of 56.

Does a clockwork metronome have a 56?

The usual kind does. In the arrangement Wikipedia's Metronome article calls the most common, the scale opens at 40 and goes up two at a time as far as 60, so 54, 56 and 58 are neighbouring notches. Past 60 the steps grow to three.

What is 56 BPM in 6/8 time?

It depends which note is counted. This site's 6/8 and 12/8 metronomes count the dotted quarter: type 56 there and each beat carries three clicks, 168 eighth notes a minute by our sum. The page you are on marks no bar.

Why can't I hear the metronome?

With more than a second between clicks, give it two beats before deciding. Then check the phone's ring switch, its volume and any Bluetooth headphones. Either way the two dots on the pad keep changing places, once a beat.
