How it works
A 32nd note metronome clicks eight times to every quarter-note beat, and the number on the pad counts the beats, not the clicks. Eight is the finest division it plays, so it opens slowly: 40 is 320 clicks a minute.

Questions and answers
How many 32nd notes are in one beat?
Eight, where the quarter note is the beat. The table in Wikipedia's Note value article puts the thirty-second note, the British demisemiquaver, at 1/32 of a whole note and the quarter note at 1/4, eight times as long.
How fast can a 32nd notes metronome go?
This one stops at 125 beats a minute, where eight to a beat reaches the tool's limit of 1,000 clicks a minute. From 51 up the clicks pass 400 a minute and the sixteen dots stay lit together; the sound goes on unchanged.
Are 32nd notes at 40 the same as 16th notes at 80?
As clicks, yes: both come 320 a minute. The louder click differs. The 16th notes page typed at 80 marks every fourth click, an eighth note of this page; here only every eighth click is louder, so the quarter note stays the beat.
Is there a way to count 32nd notes out loud?
Wikipedia's Counting article gives syllables as far as sixteenth notes, 1 e & a, and none for the level below. A thirty-second note lasts half a sixteenth, so on this metronome 32nd notes fall two to each of those four syllables.
Why can't I hear the metronome?
On a phone, check the ring switch and the volume, and whether Bluetooth headphones have taken the sound. The sixteen dots keep time in silence: a large one for each beat and seven small ones after it.
