How it works
With this metronome 2/4 time needs no setting up: the number counts the quarter note, two to a bar, a higher click and then a lower one. It opens at 120, where a bar lasts exactly one second.

Questions and answers
What is 2/4 time in music?
Two beats to a bar, each a quarter note. Open Music Theory calls it a simple duple metre and conducts it down, then up: the first beat is the downbeat, which carries the weight, and the second is the upbeat that leads back to it.
What BPM is 2/4 time?
Any. The signature fixes the bar and leaves the speed to the tempo mark. For a march, Wikipedia's Tempo article gives about 120 quarter notes a minute, which is where this page opens; 86, 100, 115 and 200 are typed as easily.
What is 2/4 time used for?
Wikipedia's Time signature article lists polkas, galops and marches, and many Latin styles, bolero, cumbia and merengue among them. Open Music Theory names 2/4 and 2/2 as the most common simple duple metres.
Is 2/4 the same as cut time?
No. Cut time is 2/2: Open Music Theory gives it two beats to a bar as well, but there the half note gets the beat, not the quarter note. Both are simple duple, so the clicks fall alike: one higher, one lower.
Why can't I hear the metronome?
Check the ring switch on a phone, then the volume, then whether the sound is going to Bluetooth headphones instead. The two dots take turns with or without sound, the larger one on beat one.
