How it works
This pi typing test prints the 3 and the point, then you type the decimals from memory: 1, 4, 1, 5, 9 and on. As a pi game it has one rule: the first wrong digit ends the run, and the page shows how far you got and the digit you missed.

How a recital runs
Press Start and type. On a phone, tap the pad if the keyboard closes. Only your last fifteen digits stay on screen, in groups of five. After a wrong key, Show the next 10 shows what came next. Under Run, Practice, next 10 shown shows each coming block of ten, accepts only the right digit and never touches your record. Finish ends it.
Landmarks in the first 1,000
The list under the tool gives every block of ten a note. Decimal 32 is the first 0, the last of the ten digits to turn up. The block 59230 78164, decimals 61 to 70, uses every digit once. The six 9s run from decimal 762 to 767. Douglas Hofstadter wrote in 1985 that he learned 380 digits as a schoolboy and never reached them.
Learn one block of ten at a time and give it a beat, like a phone number: 14159, then 26535.
Recitals break at the joins, so learn the last two digits of a block with the first two of the next: 35 then 89, 46 then 26.
Word lengths carry the opening: 'I find a handy technique is rhythm: learn ten first' counts out 1415926535. Verse runs out over long stretches, where reciters turn to the major system and the method of loci.
Questions and answers
How many digits of pi does this page hold?
The first 1,000 decimals, computed for this page with two formulas that agree digit for digit, then compared with the On-Line Encyclopedia of Integer Sequences on 19 September 2026. The 3 is printed for you and does not count, so typing 1415 scores four digits.
What is the record for reciting pi?
Guinness World Records lists 70,000 decimal places, recited blindfolded at VIT University in Vellore, India, on 21 March 2015, in a little under ten hours. That was the figure on its page on 19 September 2026, and records change. This page has no connection with Guinness World Records.
Does stopping early mean my memory is poor?
No. Nobody knows pi by accident: every digit you type was learned on purpose, so the count shows how much you have rehearsed and how steady your fingers were. It is not an assessment and cannot detect or rule out a health problem. If forgetting things troubles your daily life, raise it with a doctor.
