Ready. It starts quiet and fades in over half a second.

A steady tone can harm ears and speakers before it sounds loud. Hear nothing? Do not turn it up to find the tone: small speakers cannot play very low tones, and many adults cannot hear very high ones.

How to tune a guitar to 432 Hz

1. Press Play to hear the tuning note itself, A at 432 Hz.

2. Press 6th string E2 at 432 pitch and ease your thickest string down to it. From standard pitch it is a small move, far less than one fret.

3. Press each string's row in turn, up to the first string, and match it.

4. Hold your first string at fret 5 and press A4 at 432 Hz, the tuning note. The two should be one note, with no slow pulsing between them.

  • The low E here is 80.91 Hz. The tones are sawtooth waves, so a small speaker still carries it by its overtones.

Questions and answers

What tuning is 432 Hz?

Not a new set of notes: standard tuning with its reference A moved from 440 hertz to 432 hertz. Chord shapes stay the same. The exact drop is 31.77 cents, where one fret is 100.

How do you tune to 432 Hz with a tuner?

Many electronic tuners let you choose a reference pitch other than A = 440. Set it to 432 and tune each string to its usual letter. If yours has no such setting but shows cents, stop at 32 cents flat.

Does tuning music to 432 Hz change anything but the pitch?

Only the pitch. Every note becomes 432/440 of its standard frequency, and the intervals between notes are untouched. Played beside an instrument at 440, the two As beat eight times a second.
